Shelby Murphy, NSCA-CPT

Shelby Murphy

As the editor of PFP magazine and multimedia and the owner of Shelby Murphy Training & Fitness personal training studio and Granbury Adventure Boot Camp, Shelby’s career is the perfect fusion of her two strengths – fitness and journalism. Shelby stepped into the editor position at PFP in June of 2008 while heading up her high-quality, white-glove-service training studio that opened December 2006 and promptly won the Rising Star award in 2007. The intimate studio now serves more than 70 regular clients, often has a waiting list, and generates new clients almost solely from word-of-mouth.

In 2007, Shelby founded an Adventure Boot Camp in Granbury and has built it into the biggest group exercise program in the county. Prior to stepping out on her own, Shelby served as Marketing and Member Services Director and Lead Trainer for Performance Zone Fitness Center. She also trained independently at LifeForce Fitness, a studio in Austin, Texas and wrote, as a freelancer, for a variety of publications including the Austin Business Journal, Austin Fit magazine, Natural Living Today, CarbLite magazine, the Houston Chronicle and many more. She also wrote and self-syndicated a column called RadiantWomen. Altogether, her byline has appeared more than 1,500 times in regional and national publications. Shelby received her degree with honors in journalism from the University of Houston in 1992 and worked for several public relations firms up until her transition into fitness and freelancing in the late 1990s.

Shelby is a member of the invitation-only fitness business mastermind group PEAK Roundtable, is active in the Chamber of Commerce, and served on the Granbury Parks and Recreation board. She lives with her husband, daughter, and son in a funky house by the lake in Granbury, Texas, a small quality-of-life community just outside of Ft. Worth.

Mark Isham, Certified Personal Trainer

Mark Isham

Mark brings biomechanics and kinesiology expertise, a passion for helping clients transform their bodies, and an uplifting attitude to every client he trains at Shelby Murphy Training & Fitness. He received his bachelor’s degree in Exercise and Sports Studies from Tarleton State University in May 2008 and his National Strength and Conditioning Association certification in September 2008. Both achievements gave him a solid base of knowledge to build a training career.  However, it was his experience as a gymnast -- specializing in vault, floor, parallel bars, and rings – and a participant in State Gymnastics in 2002 and 2003 that fueled his desire to learn more about the amazing human body and how to care for it properly. Mark trained as an EMT in Austin in 2003, furthering his knowledge of functional anatomy and his passion to help people maintain their health before a crisis situation occurs.

In college, Mark worked as a weight room staff intern at Rec Sports in Stephenville where he created and taught classes on nutrition, kinesiology, cardiovascular health, and how to implement a workout plan. As a staff trainer at Shelby Murphy Training & Fitness, Mark evangelizes optimal health and shows the light to new clients who feel drained, tired, without energy, or people who want to take their fitness regimen to the next level. His outgoing personality and desire to see others succeed keeps his appointment book full.

A Texas native, Mark graduated from Round Rock High School and spends his free time visiting family, wakeboarding, watching movies, and working out.
